Direct Action for Rights & Equality (DARE) is membership organization whose mission is to organize low income families in communities of color for social, political and economic justice. DARE was founded in 1986 by families in Providence’s Southside who joined together to fight for better living conditions and a voice in their community. Since its inception, DARE has operated on the belief that the best way to build power and win concrete victories in low income communities of color is through grassroots community organizing. DARE works to undo the systems of oppression that are the root cause of the problems facing our communities in our campaign work and through organization-wide initiatives.
