From Third Wave Fund:

May 26, 2016

Yesterday, eleven states sued the Obama Administration over their mandate that states allow transgender students to use the restroom that fits their gender identity. Today, we’re announcing the #FlushTransphobia Fund to fuel the grassroots movement working to combat these horrific bills, and we invite you to join us!

Bathroom bills are about more than just bathrooms. They exploit transphobia and violence experienced by women to gain support for sweeping anti-LGBTQ bills while doing nothing to address the real causes of violence against women. If you’re concerned about the harm these bills cause to trans, gender non-conforming and intersex communities — particularly women, folks of color, and youth — we need your support. If you’re angry that conservative men created bathroom bills in the name of women’s safety while doing nothing for actual survivors of sexual violence and working consistently against women’s rights — we need your support.

We’re asking everyone who stands for gender justice to donate $25, $50, or whatever you can, and to share this campaign widely. We will put 100% of your gift into rapid response grants over the next year, and because our grants are made each month, monthly gifts are a great form of support. Each grants will fuel efforts led by trans, gender non-conforming and intersex people who are leading powerful responses to bathroom bills with very few resources.

Your gift will be used to fund bold activism, and is a form of activism itself. It sends the message that we resist gender based violence, and we need solutions that address the root causes of inequity experienced by women, queer, trans and gender non-conforming people.

Thank you for putting your values into practice, and for being a part of this with us. We’re grateful for your support!

In solidarity,

Rye Young
